Henry Boot secures approval for 290-home Kent site

Henry Boot has secured planning permission to build 290 homes in Sittingbourne, Kent after appealing an initial refusal.

The permission has been secured via the housebuilder’s land promotion and planning business Hallam Land which first submitted plans in November 2022.

Those plans were initially refused but Hallam has been successful on appeal, on the basis that Swale Borough Council’s ‘outdated’ development plan would not meet local housing needs.

Of the 290 properties, 30% will be designated affordable. New landscaping, habitat creation and publicly accessible green infrastructure investments will also feature in the development.

Tim Roberts, CEO of Henry Boot, highlighted the government’s recently announced plans to reform the NPPF as supporting this work and that Hallam had identified nearly 8,500 plots viable for expedited planning applications.

“Securing planning permission on appeal for hundreds of homes in Kent will enable the delivery of much needed housing in the area,” added Tim. “Hallam is in a strong position to help meet the new government’s ambitious housing targets and objectives set out in the draft NPPF revisions."
